Places of Interest in Tortola The largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands, Tortola is a beautiful island with Powdery white-sand beaches, yacht-filled harbors, and lush green mountains. Brewers Bay A secret hideaway, Brewers Bay is a beautiful cove located in a sheltered bay on the North Shore of Tortola. It is a well-known spot with locals at weekends. Brewers Bay is home to some of the best snorkeling options on the island and is also excellent for swimming. J.R. O'neal Botanic Gardens Established in 1979, J.R. O'neal Botanic Gardens is a serene refuge located in the heart of the Road Town in Tortola. This four-acre garden includes a range of exotic and indigenous tropical plants. Some of the major attractions of J.R. O'neal Botanic Gardens are a pergola walk, waterfall, lily pond, miniature rain forests, and tropical bird houses. The avenue of royal palms leading to the fountain makes an engrossing entrance for the visitors. The biotic assortments represent the different habitats of British Virgin Islands such as dry forests, coastal environments, and rainforests. There is also a nursery in J.R. O'neal Botanic Gardens. This nursery is an important repository for rare species of flora found within the British Virgin Islands.
