  • Apr 06, 2025 Leslie Snider Get Cheap FlightsWhen you search cheap flights...you'll find them. Cheapo. It's in the name, and you do get what you pay for. But when a carrier like American shows up in your options, grab it. There are definitive differences between carriers in numerous categories, and my latest multi-flight experiences highlighted some. The results? American Airlines, simply put, is a superior carrier! I joined AAAdvantage and tried for the 70,000 credit card Sky Miles, but they don't honor Puerto Rico. Tsk tsk.

Read below to learn more about all there is to see and do on your next trip, and count on CheapOair to find you the best deals for all of your travel booking needs.

The former national capital of Oman from 1932 to 197, Salalah is now the capital and seat of the governor of the southern Omani province of Dhofar. Two other peculiarities are also associated with this city- first that it is the birthplace of the current Sultan of the country (Qaboos bin Said) and second that it is one of probably only two places in the Arabian peninsula (besides Yemen) that experiences a monsoon season. It hosts Salalah Tourism Festival during the monsoon season between July and September, thus making it the best time to visit the city and to admire its traditional frankincense trade and Islamic architecture amidst some stellar show of dance and music.

Places of Interest in Salalah
The Al Balid Archeological Park is located on the ruins of Al Balid, a 12th century city and a famous frankincense trading hub that was visited by Marco Polo and Ibn Batuta during the Medieval Period. You would be mighty impressed by the excavated ruins of an old mosque (that is fabled to have 148 pillars), several artifacts and a dedicated display of Omani maritime history here.
Sultan Qaboos Mosque Salalah
Sultan Qaboos Mosque Salalah is the confluence of Islamic reverence and architecture in Salalah. Built in 29, it is the largest mosque in the city and is hallmarked by a single dome that is neatly flanked by two minarets. Its interiors are known for their exquisite lighting work and Arabic calligraphy inscriptions. A total of 14 people can pray here at any given time.
Wadi Dirbat
Not too many people would come close to realize that a Middle Eastern city could have a lake, mountains, lush greenery, prehistoric caves and even a temporary waterfall. Wadi Dirbat is home to a superb kaleidoscopic view of all these aforementioned attractions along with some picture-perfect beauty. In order to experience it yourself, you would have to drive for an hour east of Salalah.
