Renton is a city in King County in Washington, United States. The city was initially a nondescript place for salmon fishing until mid-19th century when it volcanically appeared on the world map during the Second World War with its stunning lineup of Boeing B-29 Superfortress fighter planes to counter Hitler’s air supremacy. After the US had emerged victorious in the Second World War, the Boeing factory switched roles to produce its famous commercial airliner called Boeing 737. What happened in between these two events was another stunner, but perhaps more musical and a little sadder. Renton has, in part, been associated with the legendary rock guitarist and singer Jimi Hendrix. He lived in the city for some time during his childhood and was buried here in 1970.
Everything about the Renton History Museum is related to history, even the building in which it is housed. It was once a fire station that was built in 1942 AD in typical Art Deco style, and you would get to see an old image of the same once you enter here amidst a mind-blowing collection of more than 17000 photographs and 10000 artifacts and archives related to Renton’s history.
Greenwood Memorial Park
Greenwood Memorial Park is best known for being the resting place of Jimi Hendrix. These remains are kept in the Jimi Hendrix Monument and are hallmarked by a stone block sheltered by a nearly 30 foot high granite dome that stands over three columns. This park also includes a Veterans of Foreign Wars monument (atop which is mounted an anti-aircraft gun) and the Garden of Eternal Peace with a large pagoda and a fountain.Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park
Renton’s Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park is where you can enjoy some fishing, swimming and walking trails, besides playing tennis or volleyball or walking in the gardens. The best time to visit here is 4th July and 25th December for the Independence Day and Christmas Day celebrations respectively when the park hosts a stunning series of fireworks. Please note that animals, alcoholic drinks, rollerblades, skateboards and bike touring adventures are not allowed here.
