Government Palace

Located in Plaza de Armas, Government Palace was completed in 1774. The palace features a magnificent Baroque building with several columns with their zigzag ornamentation, Churrigueresque estipites, and large volutes. The remarkable interior of the palace boasts highlights such as its fine old staircase, various murals depicting the War of Independence, and the painting of heroes of the three Mexican wars painted by renowned fresco-painter Jose Clemente Orozco.

Regional Museum of Guadalajara: Located just a stroll from the Plaza de Armas, Regional Museum of Guadalajara is housed in a former 18th century seminary that served as a prison and headquarters during the War of Independence. The museum was opened in 1918 and puts on display many Pre-Columbian finds and ethnographical displays. The major highlights of Regional Museum of Guadalajara include 14 dioramas and exhibits concerning to local fossil and geography, a fine collection of colonial-era artwork, a collection of contemporary and modern art, and a large mineral collection that incorporates an 800-kilogram meteorite.
