Baltimore Museum of Art
Situated in Charles Village, the Baltimore Museum of Art lies in the
proximity of Baltimore's city centre. It is the largest museum in the State
of Maryland. Displayed within are nearly 90,000 art pieces. These include
work by Matisse, Picasso, and Cezanne. Due to its rich and expansive
collection the museum draws art enthusiasts from across the globe. Also
housed within are Andy Warhol collections (one of the largest in the world)
and features European sculptures, African, Asian, and decorative arts.
Walters Art Gallery
The Walters Art Museum, located in the Mount Vernons Cultural District, is
a cultural institution of international renown. It is one of only a few
museums worldwide to present a comprehensive history of art from the third
millennium B.C. to the early 20th century. Among its thousands of treasures
are a fine collection of ivories, jewellery, enamels and bronzes, and a
large reserve of illuminated manuscripts and rare books. The
Walters' Egyptian, Greek and Roman, Byzantine, Ethiopian and
western medieval art collections are extensive, as are the museums holdings
of Renaissance and Asian art. Every major trend in French painting during
the 19th century is represented by one or more works in the collection.
Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum takes in the Mount Clare Station
(1851), the Print Shop (1884) and a roundhouse that now houses an excellent
collection of historic locomotives. The centrepiece is the turntable, which
connects with 22 lines containing locomotives and coaches. With only a few
exceptions all the exhibits are originals and in working order. In front of
the building is a large open area with more locomotives. There is also a
miniature railway system.

The best time to visit Baltimore is from June to August, but you will have
to book early. Spring and fall usher in milder temperatures, but the winter
months can get quite chilly, so be sure to arm yourself with plenty of
